Özet
Discrimination on the basis of gender has always been and still remains to be a major issue threatening the role of women in almost all fields of society, including the art scene. The second norm imposed on women and the structure of the existing social institutions have let to women being invisible in the art world throughout the history of art. The aim of this chapter is to analyze if new media technologies and social media platforms have added to the visibility of women artists. By conducting a qualitative research consisting of online interviews and analysis of substantial statistics, the visibility of women artists from different fields of art have been examined. Despite the egalitarian and democratic nature of digital technologies, the results of the study reveal that although the number of women artists are greater than in the past, they are still in minority and the disparity between two genders has not yet come to an end. © Peter Lang GmbH Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften Berlin 2022.
