With the increasing population, the waste rate increases. Waste warehouses and existing waste collection methods are insufficient in the face of increasing waste rates and the environment is getting more polluted day by day. In the current system, garbage collection vehicles circulate all containers even if they are empty. This causes a waste of fuel and time. In addition, garbage containers overflow in areas with high garbage density. The scope of the system, which is a smart city project developed to solve these problems; Monitoring the occupancy, temperature and humidity of the garbage containers with IoT devices, finding shortest route for emptying the containers with more than sixty percent fullness. In addition, where data cannot be retrieved from containers, the previous data obtained will be estimated for container-based prospective time series, and the occupancy rate will be estimated. There are web and mobile interfaces where all these processes can be observed, and the created road route is also displayed on the map in the web and mobile application. With the smart garbage collection system, it is aimed to reduce the cost of garbage collection, increase work efficiency, and reduce the use of fossil fuels to find solutions to environmental pollution and climate change. The smart garbage collection system has been tested with the developed simulation algorithm and it has been calculated that it provides 33.5% fuel savings compared to the existing system. © 2022 IEEE.en_US
