A systematic filter design procedure, from lumped (LC) elements to transmission lines (TL) and microstriplines (ML) is introduced. A Matlab based filter tool, MWFilterDesigner which automates all the design and analysis steps is developed. It just needs filter specifications; the rest is performed automatically and corresponding lumped and distributed filter schematics are plotted together with filter characteristics. A design file in GDSII stream format is also automatically created for the full wave investigations with commercial packages. Filters designed using this tool, are investigated with full wave EM packages and results are verified.
