The synthesis of robust H∞ sliding-mode variable-structure control for a class of switched linear systems with mismatched uncertainties and external disturbances is investigated. For this class, a single sliding surface, a switching law, and variable-structure control laws for subsystems are synthesised such that the robust H∞ performance of the resulting overall system in closed-loop is guaranteed. The proposed synthesis solution is derived via the single Lyapunov function approach and the convex combination technique. The single sliding surface contributes to the improvement of transient performance and robustness. A numerical example and the respective simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed new developments.
